Hortus Botanicus -Amsterdam

Founded in 1638, the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is one of the oldest botanic gardens in the world. Between the outdoor garden and five greenhouses there are more than 4,000 plant species present.

The Palm Greenhouse (my favorite) is a protected monument and a prominent feature of the Hortus. It was designed in 1911 by the architect Johan Melchior van der Mey on commission by Professor Hugo de Vries. In winter, the greenhouse houses a collection of palms and palm ferns (Cycadees).
